Federal regulations require that employers who provide portable fire extinguishers in the workplace, also provide training in their use. Firesafe Equipment Co., Inc, offers customized, on-site compliance training on fire extinguisher use. Our program utilizes open discussion, video, actual hands on training, and when desired hands on with live fire. Firesafe Equipment Co., Inc, also provides personalized training for customer personnel who are responsible for conducting conduct monthly extinguisher checks.
Classes of Fires and types of extinguishers
Class A Fires
Involves ordinary combustibles such as wood, cloth , paper , cardboard, rubber and many plastics.
Types of extinguishers: water, multipurpose dry chemical agents, halogenated agents, wet chemical agents and foam.
Warning: It is very dangerous to use water or a fire extinguisher labeled only for class A fires on a fire involving flammable liquids or energized electrical equipment.
Class B Fires
Involves flammables such as gasoline, oil, grease, tar, oil-based paint, lacquer and flammable gas.
Types of extinguishers: carbon dioxide, multipurpose dry chemical gents, halogenated agents an foam (for liquids only)
Class C Fires
Involves energized electrical equipment – including wiring, use boxes, circuit breakers, machinery and appliances.
Types of extinguishers: carbon dioxide, multipurpose dry chemicals, halogenated agents.
Class D Fires
Involves combustible metals, such as magnesium, lithium and potassium
Types of extinguishers: Dry powder agents approved for use on the specific combustible metal hazard
Class K Fires
Involves combustible cooking oils and fats
Types of Extinguishers: Wet chemical agents and dry chemical agents
